    Legal Requirements & Documents

Maree's Ceremonies is responsible for lodging all the legal documentation on your behalf. To do this I will require the following legal documentation:

Please note, all documents must be originals.

    • Never Validly Married: Birth Certificate plus Photo ID, or Passport.
    • Divorced: Birth Certificate plus Photo ID, or Passport, plus Decree Absolute / Certificate of Divorce.
    • Widow/Widower: Birth Certificate plus Photo ID, or passport; plus Death Certificate of spouse.

The Marriage Act states that a person must be 18 years of age to marry in Australia. However, under exceptional circumstances, a person between the ages of 16 and 18 may apply to the Courts for the permission of a Judge to be married, however this is very rare. The parents or guardians consent is also required.

A “Notice of Intended Marriage” form is required to be completed and lodged with me at least one month prior to the wedding date, and no more than eighteen months prior to the wedding date.

I will provide you with the Notice of Intended Marriage form and help you complete it.
